Disgraced ex-Miss Colombia says ex abused her

Former Miss Colombia Valerie Dominguez said Friday her ex-boyfriend physically abused her and forced her to take part in a subsidy fraud for which she is on trial.

Appearing before a Bogota judge, Dominguez defense attorney showed emails and text messages between the former Miss Colombia and Juan Manuel Davila, to demonstrate that the beauty queen’s former husband-to-be had complete control over the actions of his then fiancee.

The lawyer presented a criminal complaint for physical abuse as evidence of Davila’s aggression towards Dominguez.

Dominguez is charged with falsifying a private document and embezzling government subsidies for allegedly having accepted $164 thousand agricultural grant meant for poor farmers, which instead ended up with economically and politically powerful families.

Former agricultural minister Andres Felipe Arias, the alleged mastermind behind the multi-million embezzlement of public funds, is currently in jail awaiting trial.
