A Colombian woman who was disabled due to a faulty prescription has helped more than 100 patients win suits against health care providers, El Tiempo reported Sunday.
Rosaura Muñoz, who lost the use of her legs six years ago after she was given drugs she was allergic to, has opened a legal clinic in Bogota that provides free advice to patients with suits against medical providers.
Muñoz has used the experience she acquired from her suit to help others similarly affected. Despite not finishing high school Muños taught herself how to navigate the Colombian legal system, and won the right to receive the care she was entitled to. She currently holds an MA in law.
The advocate has used her expertise to organize a clinic that has helped others and to win suits worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“I am in solidarity with people because I lived this situation and it is very difficult,” said Muñoz. Her husband commented that “God let her live for Colombia.”
Muñoz runs a Facebook page that urges Colombia to reform its health care system. Her clinic currently handles about four clients at a time free of charge.
