Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will arrive in Colombia on Monday for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties, the U.S. State Department announced on Friday.
Steinberg plans to meet Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Monday evening and other government officials the following day “to discuss the current state of the U.S.-Colombia bilateral relationship and issues of mutual interest.”
The U.S. official also plans to meet with representatives of civil society, human rights organizations, and the private sector “to hear their perspectives on developments in Colombia and on ways to continue to strengthen relations between our two countries,” the State Department press release said.
Following his trip to Colombia, Steinberg will go to Peru.
