Colombia’s ministry of health has stated that in 2013 to date, 82 people have died of dengue in the country.

Approximately 60,000 cases of the hemorrhagic fever have been identified in 56 of a little more than 1,000 municipalities.

Jose Fernando Valderrama, a spokesmen for the Health Ministry, stated that Cali was the city worst affected, representing 27% of cases nationwide.

Other hot cities like Ibague, Villavicencio and Cucuta also remain affected areas.

Dengue mainly affects the population under 14 years. A Ministry of Health official stated that anyone exhibiting warning signs, such as “fever, malaise, headache, bone pain, continuous abdominal pain, vomiting for more than 3 hours, weakness, drowsiness and hemorrhagic stools” should go to hospital immediately.

Prone areas remain on alert and the ministry of health has stated that they will support local authorities and departments in order to mitigate the spread of dengue.
