Death toll central Colombia bus accident raised to 16

Authorities raised the number of people killed in a bus crash just outside Colombian capital Bogota to sixteen. 42 people are reported injured.

A local police commander told radio station Caracol that the brakes of one of the buses malfunctioned after which the driver lost control over the vehicle and crashed into an upcoming bus.

The crash involved a minivan driving from Bogota to Chinauta, while the other was an intercity service transporting people from the south of the country to the capital. A third, apparently Ecuadoran car, also was involved in the accident.

Authorities closed off the road connecting Bogota to Cali, Popayan and Pasto.
