The National Indigenous Organization of Colombia (ONIC) reported death threats
made against the 12 year old daughter of indigenous leader Aida
Quilcué, whose husband was shot to death by the army in
December.
According to an ONIC press release, four unknown men arrived at 12 year old Mayerli Alejandra Legarda Quilcué’s home in the south east department of Cauca and threatened her with fire arms.
Aida Quilcué reported the incident to the police.
“This is evidence of the serious persecution that has been inflicted upon this family, which in December 2008 suffered the attack and murder of Edwin Legarda,” the press release stated.
Authorities arrested seven soldiers in May for their alleged involvement in the murder of Edwin Legarda.
Quilcué was one of the organizers of indigenous protests in October and November 2008. She believes the army meant to assassinate her.
