Colombia’s intelligence agency DAS offers a $110,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a guerrilla leader suspected of ordering the Wednesday bomb attack on a DAS office in the southern city of Pasto.
According to DAS-director Felipe Muñoz, “El Mono Sergio,” thought to be the commander of the ELN in southern Colombia, ordered the bombing and received support from “Alfredo,” commander of the FARC’s Mariscal Sucre Front. The attack left twelve people injured.
The local police also said the attack was a joint FARC-ELN operation, which is allegedly the second joint attack carried out by the two guerrilla groups in the Nariño department in one week.
Following a recent spate of attacks, the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos has categorically ruled out peace talks with Colombian rebel groups. Santos took office August 7 amid FARC peace overtures, after eight years of rebel losses under former President Alvaro Uribe’s hardline anti-insurgent policies.
