Colombian security agency DAS expelled a Venezuelan police officer, who allegedly entered Colombian illegally at the north eastern border town of Maicao, in the La Guajira department, Caracol Radio reports.
DAS officially handed Hector Jose Fuenmayor Chacin, from Venezuela’s Maracaibo Municipal Police, back to Venezuelan officials at the same border town in which he entered.
According to the DAS, this is the sixth case of a member of the Venezulean authorities entering Colombia illegally since October last year.
A DAS representative that despite Colombian policy to return illegal Venezuelan authorities to their home country, DAS detective Julio Enrique Tocora Parra remains in Venezuela custody.
Tocora was arrested on suspicion of espionage in the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo last September.
The DAS released a statement explaining that Tocora had traveled to Venezuela the day before his arrest for a few days of vacation in the neighboring country.
A date for the trial of Tocora has not yet been established.
Colombia’s Ombudsman Volmar Perez said last week that there were 20 Colombians detained in Venezuela in March alone this year.
Venezuela Friday released four of eight Colombians accused of espionage at the end of March, due to a lack of evidence to convict them.
