Colombian security agency DAS on Monday asked opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba to hand over evidence that she claims shows President Alvaro Uribe ordered DAS to spy on her, reports Caracol TV.
According to a press release from DAS, Piedad Cordoba, who accused DAS of spying on her via a Twitter post on Saturday, never asked them to “conduct an internal investigation” into the supposed spying during the nearly sixteen years that the DAS has provided special security to the senator.
The statement went on to say that “despite the constant disagreeable treatment from the senator,” officials from the DAS “have given their best” to protect her.
Cordoba said on Saturday that, “A CD containing information and valuable evidence just arrived to me. Oh Mr. Uribe, what were you thinking?”
Last Thursday, Cordoba also accused the DAS of spying on her during a trip she took to Costa Rica, saying that the former director of the DAS, Maria del Pilar Hurtado, and four other agents followed her around.
Cordoba’s accusations against the DAS add to the ongoing investigation into the scandal-hit Colombian intelligence agency, which revealed the body’s illegal wiretapping and surveillance of a number of the country’s judges, journalists, opposition politicians, and trade-unionists.
Two weeks ago, Cordoba, who claims she is being persecuted for the “crime of opinion,” had to cut a trip to Europe short and return to Colombia to face charges for her alleged unauthorized dealings with Colombian guerilla group the FARC.
