The 33rd International Festival of New Latin-American Cinema in Havana is to pay homage to Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, organizers announced Tuesday.
The festival, set to run between December 1 and 11, will show six feature films inspired by the work of Garcia Marquez, and dedicated to the author.
In addition, 40 features from no less than 10 countries in South and Central America will be screened.
Garcia Marquez, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, is regarded as a promoter of Latin American cinema. He co-founded the International School of Cinema and Television in Cuba.
The six features based on his work due to grace the screens during the festival are “La mala hora” (2004), by Brazilian Ruy Guerra, “La viuda de Montiel” (1979) by Chilean Miguel Littin, “Cartas del parque” (1988) by Cuban Tomas Gutierrez Alea, “Edipo Alcalde” (1996), by Colombian Jorge Ali Triana, “El coronel no tiene quien le escriba” (1999) by Mexican Arturo Ripstein, and “Del amor y otros demonios” (2009) byCosta Rican Hilda Hidalgo.
