The Colombian Supreme Court ruled Tuesday on who will and who will not be recognized as victims of the DAS wiretapping scandal that is currently under investigation, reported Colombian media.
Judges decided that former Liberal Party Senator Piedad Cordoba, former presidential candidate Gustavo Petro, and the judges Augusto Ibañez, Yesid Ramirez, Sigifredo Espinoza, Jose Alfredo Escobar and Marina Uribe would be considered as victims.
However, they rejected the cases of the Jaime Alvear Restrepo lawyers collective, political party Polo Democratico, and journalist Carlos Lozano.
The ruling came after a hearing where prosecutors laid out the charges against the former DAS Director Maria del Pilar Hurtado and the former presidential Chief of Staff Bernado Moreno.
Del Pilar Hurtado, who fled the country to seek asylum in Panama in 2010, will face charges of criminal conspiracy, abuse of public office, illegal interception of communications, embezzlement, and forging of documents.
Moreno, who is currently in prison, will answer charges of criminal conspiracy, abuse of public office, and illegal interception of communications.
