Carlos Lozano, editor of communist magazine Voz, testified Tuesday that Piedad Cordoba’s negotiations with the FARC were approved by the government.
Lozano told the court that during Uribe’s presidency he accompanied the senator during her negotiations with the FARC and that all of her actions were taken with the approval of the government, according to Caracol Radio. Lozano believes that Cordoba should be praised for her actions rather than accused.
Cordoba is a controversial public figure in Colombia, and was accused by former President Alvaro Uribe of having ties to the FARC.
In August Supreme Court President Jaime Arrubla said that his judicial body has not seen conclusive evidence that the senator is guilty of “FARC-politics,” but last month Cordoba was barred from public office by the Inspector General for 18 years because of her alleged ties to the FARC.
After Cordoba was removed from office she said that she will continue to work on behalf of hostages and will continue to fight for her innocence.
