Colombia’s Supreme Court and Chief Prosecutor Mario Iguarán have
clashed after the high court asked the Prosecution to explain the delay in cases against lawmakers suspected of having had ties with
paramilitary organization AUC.
The Court had asked the Prosecution in a letter to report about the progress of twelve pending cases against lawmakers, suspected of ‘parapolitics’.
According to the Supreme Court, it still doesn’t know what happened to the resigned lawmakers.
Chief Prosecutor Mario Iguarán replied three of the congressmen on the court’s list were long convicted and it had officially indicted two others and is waiting on the court to set the date for their trials.
Iguarán added that because of the work of his office there are already 400 investigations against 500 people with alleged ties with the paramilitaries.
