The former director of the Urban Developement Institute Liliano Pardo is granted house arrest for her involvement in the Bogota corruption scandal.
The judge handed down the sentencing on Wednesday morning, granting house arrest to Pardo so she could continue looking after her 14-year-old daughter.
“In view of the care and protection of children it is relevant to the benefit of home detention. This is in benefit of her youngest daughter,” said the judge.
The other officials involved in the scandal, ex-comptroller Miguel Angel Moralesrussi and former legal assistant Inocencio Melendez were awarded jail sentences.
Moralesrussi and Melendez are looking at a jail time of eight to 15 years while Pardo will face a minimum nine year sentence, Semana reported.
The widespread corruption scandal, implicating Bogota mayor Samuel Moreno among others, broke out in the fall of 2010 when a tape recording surfaced appearing to illustrate bribery and corruption over the issuance of public works contracts to the Nule Group.
On Monday the three directors of the Nule Group were formally charged with embezzlement by appropriation, fraud, misrepresentation, bribery and conspiracy.
