Córdoba University rector arrested

Authorities arrested the rector of the University of Córdoba for having ties to demobilized paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso.

The former leader of the AUC had testified that his paramilitary organization had sent men to the university faculty to assure the election of Claudio Sanchez Parra.

The appointment of university rectors was part of the AUC’s strategy to infiltrate the academic institution, which in the eyes of the paramilitaries was infiltrated by guerrillas of the FARC.
