Cordoba denies seeking compensation for dismissal

Former Senator Piedad Cordoba denies reports that she is seeking compensation for unfair dismissal, Caracol Radio reports.

In a statement released Monday, Cordoba said that Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez had “once again completed his objective of misrepresenting my reputation in both national and international public spheres.”

Last Friday it was claimed that Cordoba would seek over $44,000 in compensation for her unfair dismissal from the Senate in September 2010. She was banned from public office for 18 years by Ordoñez.

Cordoba is set to present a complaint before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights on March 26 in what she describes as an attempt to expose “the systematic chain of slander, libel and stunts performed by different officials against me.”

She also affirmed that she will continue to pursue legal avenues to allow her reentry into the Senate.

Cordoba has seen several legal appeals against her dismissal blocked by the courts, even though Ordoñez himself was at one point under investigation for his conduct in the affair.
