Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba, dismissed by her country’s inspector general for allegedly aiding the FARC, announced Monday she will write to the guerrillas and government to ask them to establish a political dialogue.
The Congressman, visiting the Argentina capital of Buenos Aires, said that she will write guerrilla groups FARC and ELN and hopes for a “positive reaction on the humanization of the conflict and the possibility for a political dialogue to achieve this.”
Cordoba said she will also write President Juan Manuel Santos, who agreed to meet with members of Cordoba’s peace group “Colombians for Peace.”
Cordoba was recently barred to hold public office for 18 years for “collaborating with and promoting” the FARC. The country’s Supreme Court earlier aqcuitted the senator of criminal charges because of lack of evidence.
