Ex-senator Piedad Cordoba was called Tuesday before a congressional investigative committee to clarify her accusations that President Juan Manuel Santos was involved in an assassination plot against her.
The legal proceedings, which already included a preliminary investigation against Santos, follow a complaint filed by Cordoba in the legal case regarding illegal DAS wiretapping, which allegedly revealed the existence of a plan to assassinate opponents of the government at the time Santos was defense minister.
The current charges state that there is “an alleged criminal plan to assassinate former senator Piedad Esneda Cordoba Ruiz, apparently orchestrated by a high-ranking official of the Colombian government, official investigation initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office.”
The representative investigator of the case against Santos, Yahir Acuña, who also investigates Uribe’s involvement in the DAS wiretapping case, informed the president of the case’s opening, and cited Cordoba to present her statement to the committee on October 18.
Acuña has refused to give further information on the process, arguing that any statement could generate appeals against him in the process.
