Former Senator Piedad Cordoba demands increased protection, claiming that there are people from the previous government of Alvaro Uribe who “have an interest” in killing her, reports El Espectador.
The ex-official met with government representatives to demand personal protection against attack, and said that she had been advised by the Inter-American Commission on Human rights to seek greater protection now that she has been barred from public office.
“The fact that I’m out of the Senate puts me in a state of increased risk and vulnerability,” said Cordoba.
Cordoba was officially dismissed from the Senate on Tuesday for her alleged links to the FARC.
The former senator said that although she felt safer now that the Uribe administration is no longer in power, her life may still be in danger.
Cordoba also said that the “inappropriate decision of the Inspector General” contributed to the risks she faces.
