Conservative Party must elect presidential candidate

Colombia’s National Electoral Council ruled Tuesday that the Conservative Party illegally canceled choosing their own presidential candidate on September 11.

The high court was considering a challenge made by presidential candidate Andres Felipe Arias.

The Council’s decision overrides one made by the Conservative Party Directorate to postpone the choice of candidate until next year.

Thus on 27 September during the party meeting, a presidential candidate will have to be chosen from among Andres Felipe Arias, José Galat, Alvaro Leyva and Fernando Araújo.
