Congressman absolved of parapolitics charges

Colombia’s Supreme Court absolved opposition Senator Luis Fernando Velasco of the charges had had sought political gain through pacts with paramilitary factions.

According to Caracol Radio, the high court was not able to find any evidence of bribery and rejected the testimony of former senator Rocio Arias, in jail for paramilitary ties, that the opposition senator had received money and support of paramilitary organization AUC.

The Supreme Court is investigating dozens of politicians for their alleged ties to paramilitaries.
