Congressional investigations against former President Alvaro Uribe will resume before August 30, according to members of the Accusation Commission, various media reported Wednesday.
The Accusation Commission denied charges filed against two of the investigative congressmen, Heribierto Escobar and Yahir Acuña, for alleged involvement in the wiretapping scandal.
Acuña and Escobar were challenged by the lawyer of former Senator Piedad Cordoba, who was a victim of the wiretapping scandal.
After the refusal, Acuña said that the hearings conducted by the Accusation Commission will resume before August 30. This was agreed upon by Escobar, Acuña, and Jose Rodolfo Perez.
According to Acuña, “the three of us spoke and we agreed on a proposal to set the new date to be before the August 30.” Acuña added that he “does not want to delay the process further.”
The news was confirmed by the representative German Blanco, who was elected in today’s session as chairman of the Accusations Commission.
