The Foreign Ministry says that the comptroller general must follow specific procedures to freeze the assets of the NuleGroup, which is implicated in a Bogota corruption scandal, Caracol Radio reported Friday.
The Nule Group is a troubled Colombian construction company which is under investigation for alleged back-room dealings of with Bogota officials.
The Foreign Ministry told the comptroller general that the the ministry cannot obtain bank account information for the Nule Group since the request has not been signed by the appropriate judicial authorities in Colombia.
Comptroller General Sandra Morelli said that the administration is hindering the seizure of assets of the Nule group, and that Colombia’s treaties with other counties should act as the necessary tools to advance the seizure of Nule’s assets abroad.
Foreign Minister Angela Holguin said Friday that, “The ministry has methods and channels, and in this case the prosecutor general or the judges are the ones to carry out this process, not the comptroller who is not empowered to establish such contacts abroad.”
