A special commission will investigate alleged irregularities in the administration of former Valle del Cauca Governor Juan Carlos Abadia, W Radio reported Wednesday.
Abadia served as governor from January 1, 2008, until May 25, 2010, when the Prosecutor General’s Office removed him from office for allegedly giving illegal support to former Agriculture Minister Andres Felipe Arias bid for the presidency in the Conservative Party primaries.
According to Colombian law, elected officials are not allowed to interfere in or influence elections in any way, meaning that they are barred from openly supporting or opposing candidates.
The investigative commission is comprised of anti-corruption prosecutors, agents from the Technical Investigations Team (CTI) and members of the Comptroller General’s Office. The group will travel to Valle del Cauca to investigate every contract made and administrative action taken by Abadia during his time in office.
The CTI will interview local officials and former officials to establish what, if any, irregularities took place under his administration.
