Colombia’s soccer federation wants Pekerman to stay on as head coach

Colombia’s Soccer Federation (FCF) announced that the organization has had no other candidates in mind than Jose Pekerman to continue coaching the Colombian national soccer team, who has yet to commit while on vacation after the squad’s elimination in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

Luis Bedoya, president of the FCF, confirmed on Monday that the sole continuity plan for the Colombian national soccer team was to have Pekerman stay on as head coach, Colombia’s La Nacion reported on Tuesday.

“We have not managed any plan B; our plan A, B, and C is ‘Professor Pekerman,’ so we want him,” said Bedoya.

According to Bedoya, the Argentine-born coach has been on a “well deserved” vacation since being eliminated from the World Cup, and when he returns, the two will speak about Pekerman’s future in Colombia.

“We are waiting for him [Pekerman] to consider in a timely manner, after all the hard work, the wear of the World Cup, the concentration, the competition; that we are able to sit and talk about his continuity [with the team],” said Bedoya.

Although both the president of the FCF and the president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, have both pleaded for Pekerman to stay on as Colombia’s coach, the Argentine mastermind has not yet given an answer, according to Colombia’s Caracol Radio.

According to Caracol, it is difficult to infer what Pekerman may choose, as it is possible that he decides to return home to Argentina. In the meantime; however, the beloved coach has refused to touch on the subject in order for the World Cup euphoria to die down and to meditate further on the offer.
