Colombia’s Rigoberto Uran on Tuesday won the 10th stage of the Giro d’Italia beating fellow Colombian Carlos Betancur to the honor.
The Colombian Team Sky rider was the first to arrive at the finish line in Altopiano di Montasio after shaking his compatriot at the final climb.
The stage victory at the first real mountain stage puts Uran third in the overall classification of one of the most important cycling tours in the world.
Uran is 2:40 behind Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali and 1:23 behind the number two, Australia’s Cadel Evans.
The Colombian’s victory even put him a second above Sky team leader and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins.
Uran is considered one of Colombia’s best riders and won a silver medal at the Summer Olympics in London.
