Colombia’s meteorological institute IDEAM announced on Tuesday that heavy rains will continue to fall with greater intensity throughout the country for the rest of November.
Meteorologist Gloria Leon said that the departments of La Guajira, Cesar, Magdalena, Atlantico, and Bolivar will all receive steady rainfall throughout the week with the greatest intensities being in the areas near the Sierra Nevada.
She also noted that thunderstorms are expected in Bogota with heavy rains also precipitating in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, and Quindio.
According to Director of Risk Management Carlos Ivan Marquez, Colombia’s rains this year have left more than 65,000 families affected, 95 people dead, and hundreds of homes destroyed.
Landslides have also accounted for more than 66 injuries, seven people missing, and 52,700 damaged homes.
