Colombia’s Prosecutor General Viviane Morales denied Wednesday claims that she advised paramilitaries as part of the demobilization process in Ralito, northwest Colombia.
“It’s a total lie. I have never been a trial attorney. I went to a university in Ralito that was also attended by international professors in a public forum, it was never secretive,” said Morales on an international forum for transitional justice.
The Prosecutor General further ruled out any possibility that she stayed at the house of a paramilitary while she was in Ralito.
“It’s a shame to say that. I never advised any offender. That has never been the subject of my work,” she added.
Morales further rejected criticisms about her marriage to ex-Congressman Carlos Alonso Lucio, who is under investigation for having controversial business ties, by saying that her work in office was “totally independent” and that no one person has inference in her decisions.
