Oil production for Colombia in March reached 884,000 barrels per day, a more than 15% increase from the same month the previous year, reported El Espectador.
The state-run company Ecopetrol and its associates produced figures of 786,000 bopd (barrels of oil per day), while the contracts administered by the firm ANH exceeded 98,000 bopd.
For March last year, Colombia was producing 766,000 bopd, making Tuesday’s figures a marked increase. On average the country has produced 860,000 barrels of crude oil daily so far in the first quarter of 2011.
This increase has been primarily brought about by the increased productivity of Ecopetrol who saw a jump of 106,000 bopd in their production for March 2011 compared to the same month last year.
Ecopetrol President Javier Gutierrez announced last week that the company is on track to produce 1.45 million boepd (barrels of oil equivalent per day) by 2013, including natural gas production, reaching their target of one million per day two years earlier than than originally forecast.
