Colombia’s unemployment rate was 11.6% in July, slightly lower than in the same month last year, national statistics agency DANE said Wednesday.
In total, 2.581,000 Colombians were without a job against 2.748,000 in July last year, said the agency.
According to Dane, urban employment was 11.3%. However, a median estimate of 15 economists surveyed by Bloomberg set the urban unemployment rate at 11.8%.
The underemployment rate — the percentage of people who have income, but make less than the country’s minimum wage — was set at 31.5%, which is 2.7 percentage points lower than last year.
The country’s highest unemployment rates were measured in Popayan (17.9%), Quibdo (17.8%) and Ibague (17.6%). The lowest unemployment rates were measured in San ANdres (5.9%), Barranquilla (6.9%), and the capital Bogota (9.6%).
