Colombia’s James Rodriguez possibly sidelined for 2 months

Colombian soccer icon James Rodriguez has fractured a metatarsal in his right foot, potentially sidelining himself for two months, media reported on Thursday.

James suffered an injury to his right foot, more precisely in one of his toes, following the injury he sustained at a league game on Wednesday.

“After tests on James Rodriguez performed by the medical services of Real Madrid in the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja, the diagnosis is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal on his right foot. The player will undergo surgery in the coming hours,” clarified the Spanish club.

Doctor Mariano Prado, a recognized specialist in this type of injury, is set to perform Rodriguez’s surgery on Thursday afternoon reported Spanish media.

The preliminary diagnosis is two months on the sideline for the Real Madrid star, ending a dream run for the national hero which peaked at the 2014 World Cup when he won the tournament’s Golden Boot and scored FIFA’s Goal of the Year.

“Both players [Xabi Alonso and Geronimo Rulli] suffered the same injury that James has and were out for just over two months,” said soccer portal Marca.

The tentative two-month time frame has been widely reported by global media.

James will miss almost all of the remaining La Liga games given this time frame, but could reappear in the last leg of the championship or in the semifinals of the Champions League if Real Madrid were to progress that far.

Rodriguez had earlier scored in the game, illustrating the solid recent form that Real Madrid will be missing.

The Colombian No.10 is not set to miss any games for the national team at this stage, as no friendlies have been scheduled in the near future.
