President Juan Manuel Santos signed a decree on Tuesday appointing Colombia’s Inspector General to supervise, control and monitor the former DAS’ intelligence files.
In a public statement, Santos said that this appointment will ensure “appropriateness and confidentiality of these files” as they will have strict supervision.
The decree came as a response to last September’s massive leak of DAS intellegence files in which the names and addresses of 6,022 DAS officials including informants, undercover agents, and their family members were compromised.
Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez assured that he will take on full responsibility for the surveillance of the files according to the legal and constitutional framework of the country as the Colombian State looks to him for the protection of its fundamental rights.
