Colombia’s imports rose 34.4% over last year, said Colombia’s National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) in a report Wednesday.
2011 imports totaled $54.7 billion. Automobiles and auto parts made up the bulk of this increase, rising 60% over last year.
Predictably, the US was Colombia’s largest importer. But it’s worth noting that Chinese imports rose by 49.3% over last year.
Colombia’s imports constituted the largest increase out of any country in the region, followed by Peru’s 30.3% rise, Ecuador’s 27.7% rise, and Bolivia’s 37.9% decrease.
Colombia announced 2011 exports exceeded $50 billion on Monday. Meanwhile Colombia’s central bank has taken measures to temper Colombia’s heating economy.
