Colombia’s inspector general has presented charges against the country’s trade minister for alleged administrative irregularities that occurred during the minister’s former position in the Business Development Ministry, local media reported Thursday.
Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez presented a statement of charges against current Trade Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados for possible irregularities in the appointment of various members of the Council for Administration of the Colombian Fund for Modernization and Technological Development. The alleged inconsistencies occured during Diaz-Granados’ tenure as Vice Minister of Business Development.
Ordoñez additionally charged the heads of a number of companies with membership in the council for their involvement in the irregularities.
The Public Ministry is also analyzing apparent inconsistencies in the presentation and evaluation of a co-financing project for 200 small and medium-sized exporting companies in the country during Diaz-Granados’ time in office.
The investigation against Diaz-Granados is based on an examination of the records of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism that took place in 2006.
