Falcao left out of Colombia’s Copa America squad

Colombia’s Radamel Falcao was not selected in the national team squad announced on Wednesday for the upcoming centenary Copa America in the USA.

Coach Jose Pekerman released a 40-man provisional squad for the South American tournament but omitted the 30-year old former team captain.

“El Tigre” has made just nine Premier League appearances for his club Chelsea this season and has completed 90 minutes on only one occasion.

Since suffering a serious knee injury before the 2014 World Cup, Falcao has endured a torrid time making a loan move from Monaco to Manchester United making just 26 appearances and scoring four goals.

His subsequent season-loan move to Chelsea has followed a similar pattern with the Santa Marta-born forward having little opportunity to impress.

British media reported this week that Falcao and his agent Jorge Mendes will await until the arrival of the new club manger, rumored to be Italian Antonio Conte before listening to offers from possible suitors.

Colombia’s all-time highest goal scorer has two years left on his $140,000 a-week contract with Monaco but Italian side Roma are reported to be the front-runners to acquire his signature.

Colombia climb to 4th place in FIFA World soccer rankings

Pekerman’s squad who recently climed to fourth place in the world will play Haiti in a friendly on May 29 in preparation for their opener in the Copa America against the USA on June 3.

“Los Cafeteros” were drawn in a group that also includes Paraguay and Costa Rica for the oldest international continental football competition.
