Colombia’s first round of presidential elections scheduled for Sunday are expected to cost the state $50.6 million (COP100 billion), according to the National Registry.
The Registry said that the Treasury had assigned a combined budget of over COP270 billion for Colombia’s March 14 congressional elections and the upcoming first round presidential elections.
Around COP12 billion was assigned to the installation of 5,000 additional voting tables for the first round election.
The Treasury has set aside COP95 billion for a potential second round presidential election.
In the event that no candidate receives the 50% plus one of the vote to win the first round outright, the two most popular candidates will face off in a second round election.
