Hotels in Colombia’s Caribbean city of Santa Marta are filling up during holiday season as its tourism industry continues to grow, according to Colombian newspaper El Informador.
The Colombian Hotel Association (COLTEC) has released figures indicating that hotel occupancy in the city — located in Colombia’s northern Magdalena department — is almost 85%, with all hotels performing well and some consistenty reaching maximum occupancy.
Omar Garcia, Director of the Magdalena chapter of COLTEC, says that “This reflects the work being done in terms of tourism promotion, and shows us that Santa Marta is a strengthened city, and that its hospitality industry is capable of providing the best services to visitors.”
Though best known for its Caribbean coast and many beaches, tourist spots frequented by visitors also include several historic sites, such as the Santa Marta Cathedral, the house of San Pedro Alejandrino, and the historic old town centre.
