Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil) has approved 30 additional flights to Brazil to meet demand for those traveling to the World Cup, according to Colombia’s Caracol Radio.While the Colombian national soccer team continues to go undefeated in the World Cup, the country’s aviation authorities have approved 30 additional flights to Brazil where the games are being held, Colombia’s Caracol radio reported on Thursday.
The additional flights have been approved through July 1 with each Airbus 330 having the capacity to carry 238 passengers.
Bilateral agreement
Aerocivil announced that the issue of the added flights stems from a bilateral agreement between Brazil and Colombia, and the agency requested that all airport personnel and operators make every effort to meet the high passenger flow through the coming month.
Colombian aviation authorities expect to receive around 5.3 million domestic and international passengers through July 20 and have asked airport police, immigration, and tax agencies to be more flexible and timely in order to speed-up services for the extra boost in foot traffic, according to Caracol Radio.
New, permanent routes to Europe too
On Thursday, TAP Portugal announced that from July 1, they will have four direct flights a week from Portugal’s capital Lisbon, to Bogota using 268-seat A330-200 aircraft.
Earlier in 2014, Avianca announced direct flights between London and Bogota, and on Monday this week, Spain’s Iberia airline announced that the company will be expanding its weekly flights between Madrid and Colombia’s capital.
