Colombian civilian organizations are planning a march against terrorism and violence in response to the recent killing of four FARC hostages.
The “Global Mobilization for the Liberty of all Hostages,” taking place December 6, is being organized by the civil society groups Colombia Soy Yo, Indígnate Colombia, Manos Limpias, Titanes por la Libertad, and Adopta un Secuestrado.
It has the support of Vice-president Angelino Garzon, the presidents of the Senate and the House, Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez, and chairman of the Senate’s peace commission Roy Barreras.
The organizers are calling on people around the world to arrange solidarity marches.
Rosa Cristina Parra, director of Colombia Soy Yo said the sad deaths of the hostages had prompted civilian organizations to come together.
A spokesperson from Colombia Indignate said “This is public opposition to the attempts of warlords to continue the conflict forever.”
The protest is being organized on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #Nomasviolencia6dic.
Millions of Colombians took to the streets in February 2008 to protest FARC violence. Marches that were organized for the same purpose in 2009 and 2010 failed to attract as much support.
