Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon called for a dialogue between the government and students over proposed reforms to higher education.
According to media reports, Garzon asked the presidents of the House of Representatives and the Seventh Commission of the House to come to an agreement with students and professors.
Although Garzon claims Congress and the Ministry of Education should negotiate with education representatives, he reiterated that the government will not withdraw its proposal to change Law 30, which seeks to reform public universities.
Education Minister Maria Fernanda Campo has already agreed to the idea of a dialogue with students, the vice president explained.
Garzon regretted the violent protests across the country on Wednesday, in which one student was killed by a potato bomb in Cali and protesters clashed with riot police in Bogota.
