A South Florida judge pardoned the life sentence of a Colombian woman sentenced for participating in a plot to murder a federal witness, reported RCN radio Wednesday.
Yuby Ramirez was condemned to life in prison in 2002 for her role in the assasination plot hatched by two alleged drug traffickers.
However, in just a few days she will be set free and deported back to Colombia.
The judge pardoned Ramirez’s sentence, ruling that she was convicted with insufficient evidence.
In 2000, Ramirez was involved with Willie Falcon and Sal Magluta, two Florida residents accused of drug trafficking.
Both Falcon and Magluta allegedly conspired to murder a witness that police planned to use during their trial. According to RCN radio, Ramirez knew about the conspiracy and housed the alleged murderers.
Two lawyers advised Ramirez to reject a proposition to collaborate with police,accept her charges, and a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. She decided to take their advice and go to trial where she received life in prison.
After several appeals, the judge considered that Ramirez who has already been in jail for 12 years, was not tried fairly and granted her, her freedom.
