Colombia news - Haider Ackermann

A Colombian could be the new head designer of the Givenchy fashion house, if the whispers in the style industry’s rumor mill are to be believed, El Espectador reported Monday.

Haider Ackermann, a 39-year-old Bogota native adopted by French parents, may be the successor of Ricardo Tisci, the current head designer at Givenchy, according to the blogs and Tweets of fashion editors such as Derek Blasberg of The New York Times. Tisci is predicted to take over at the Dior fashion house after John Galliano’s departure.

Ackermann, who left Colombia as a child, studied at the Antwerp Fashion Academy of Fine Arts and  launched his self-titled label in 2001.  There has been no confirmation of any appointment by Givenchy’s holding company Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy.

Ackermann, who spent his childhood in  Ethiopia, Chad, Algeria, France, and the Netherlands said “I would love to show my collections in Colombia, especially in Bogota, my city.”
