Colombian soccer striker Dayro Moreno joined his new Mexican team in Tijuana Monday, various media reported.

After finishing playing with the Colombian Copa America team, Moreno has joined the Tijuana Xoloitzcuintes and his new teammates.

“It was always a longing to come and play at Mexico for the quality of players there and the style of play that has been shown. Now that I have this opportunity I should take full advantage and do a good job, show that they were not wrong to hire me and them a good show on the field”

“We will look at how the week progresses and we will see if we can act this Saturday. And if given the chance, to prove that we are for great things.”

Moreno, 25 years old, signed with the Xoloitzcuintles in June 2011 in a deal worth $3.5 million. He will play the next three seasons with the Tijuanense team.

He nearly signed with Sporting Clube de Portugal but backed out because of his proposed lower salary. The striker said, “If it was not Europe, it was Mexico.”

“The most important thing is that I am a back and forth player, of a lot of sacrifice on the field and that’s what is most important in football now.”
