A Colombian citizen is still missing in Japan two weeks after the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the country, local media reported on Friday.
The man identified as Luis Ayakama has a Colombian mother and Japanese father and was in the area hardest hit by the March 11 tsunami.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced on Friday that the embassy is doing their utmost to locate the Colombian national.
“The ambassador (of Colombia in Japan, Patricia Cardenas) could not locate anyone with references to this compatriot, so we are looking for anyone who can give us information as to his whereabouts,” announced Santos.
Ayakama’s family sent a letter to the Colombian embassy alerting them of the possibility of his death, however this situation has not been confirmed.
The news comes hours after a second rescue flight carrying 114 Colombian evacuees from Japan landed in Bogota. A total of 253 Colombians have been evacuated from the devastated country so far.
The death toll from Japan’s worst ever disaster has surpassed 10,000 while over 17,400 people are still reported as missing.
