Colombian soccer legend Freddy Rincon will survive the injuries sustained in a car accident in southwest Colombia, local media reported Sunday.
According to newspaper El Espectador, Rincon arrived at a hospital in his native Valle del Cauca department late Saturday afternoon, after totalling his car whilst travelling at “excessive speed.”
According to doctors at the San Jose de Buga hospital, the former Colombian midfielder suffered several fractures in one of his arms and a strong blow to the head, but will survive otherwise unharmed.
Rincon, whose professional career included successful stints in Colombia, Italy and Brazil, numerous caps for the Colombian national team and an iconic two-goal performance in Colombia’s legendary 5-0 victory over defending world champions Argentina, lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons, but is expected to make a full recovery, and could leave the hospital later this week after recovering from surgery.
