A Colombian cargo ship loaded with 380 tons of humanitarian aid on Wednesday departed from the Colombian coastal city of Cartagena, destined for the earthquake-ravaged Caribbean nation of Haiti, reported Colombian media.
The ship’s load includes food and construction materials for the island nation, which was devastated by an 7.0-magnitude earthquake in January.
Commander of Colombia’s Caribbean navy, Henry Blain, said “As well as carrying food, which is short in Haiti, we are sending construction materials such as tiles, wood, nails and anything that can help them reconstruct their homes, which is the aid that is needed now.”
The aid is intended to be used to rebuild schools, homes and health centers for the Haitian people.
This is the third load of humanitarian aid that Colombia has sent to Haiti, amounting in a total of 1,200 tons.
