Colombia’s Inspector General has absolved the National Registrar of electoral fraud accusations, reported local media Wednesday.
Allegations of misconduct and fraud were leveled against Registrar Carlos Ariel Sanchez following the congressional elections in March 2010.
At the time, Sanchez was blamed for a series of technical shortcomings relating to the pre-count data of the 2010 Senate and House elections and undermining the entire vote counting process.
There were also lesser claims that the registrar permitted drinking in the Corferias VIP lounges, close to where the vote counting was taking place.
More than two years later, Colombian prosecutors have shelved their investigation into Sanchez and have admitted he likely did not undermine the electoral process or breach any laws.
