Colombian police captured two narco-traffickers Tuesday who are responsible for sending roughly 20 tons of cocaine to North America each year using semi-submersibles.
Both men are wanted for extradition by the United States Justice Department. The suspects are alleged members of the organization of the murdered drug lord Wilber Alirio Varela, alias “Jabon.”
After the death of Jabon in 2008, the two men allegedly attempted to manage a more discrete operation by periodically moving between Bogota, Cartagena, and Santa Marta. In general, they would transport cocaine from Tumaco and Buenaventura on the Colombian Pacific coast, and in some cases, they would utilize the Ecuadorean coast via Mexico and the U.S.
The extradition of the suspects remains in the hands of Colombia’s Prosecuter General Viviane Morales.
