Colombian special forces arrested Wednesday a suspected FARC guerrilla accused of having been the jailor of former Congressman Oscar Tulio Lizcano who was able to escape his captivity in 2008.
The guerrilla, alias “Marroco,” was arrested by an anti-kidnapping and extortion unit of the National Police in a rural area of Colombia’s coffee region.
According to the authorities, Marroco was the guard of Lizcano while the Congressman was held hostage between August 2000 and his escape eight years later.
The 34-old guerrilla, whose real name is Humberto Pescador Aricapa, is suspected of being a mid-level commander of the FARC’s Aurelio Rodriguez column and faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and rebellion.
Marroco’s hostage escaped with the help of “Izasa,” a FARC guerrilla who was pardoned and allowed to move to France to avoid reprecussions by his former fellow-guerrillas.
Colombian authorities claimed on two previous occasions — in 2009 and in 2011 — to have arrested captors of the former congresman.
