The Colombian military says it killed rebel leader Guillermo Dimate in a rural area south of Bogota on Tuesday.
Dimate, who led FARC’s 51st Front, was killed in combat in a rural area of the municipality of Cabrera, according to General Juan Fernando Anaya, head of Colombian Army’s 13th Brigade. Four guerilla fighters were also captured in the operation.
Dimate’s death follows the death of his predecessor, “El Negro Arturo,” who was killed by the Army two weeks ago.
According to military sources, El Negro Arturo and the 51st Front of FARC were responsible for the murders of two local government officials in the area in October 2009.
The 51st Front of FARC is responsible for keeping supplies lines open and providing security for the movements of FARC’s chief military leader “Mono Jojoy.”
